Billen Cliffs Community Hall
The Billen Cliffs Hall was officially opened on Saturday,
May 15th 2010 by Cr Jenny Dowell, Mayor of Lismore.

The
opening of the Billen Cliffs hall is a significant milestone towards
our village sustainability and a celebration of our community resilience.
Hall construction started in 1993 with support from a Lismore City
Council grant and has been gradually completed over 17 years.
The Billen Cliffs Hall gives the area an exciting new venue for
local community activities and events, provides a home for the arts
and a great meeting place for visitors and residents, as well as
a timely opportunity to house local business.
The official opening celebrates our communities’ vision of
regeneration we wish to thank those who believed in the building
project and contributed as volunteers and contractors, funding partners
and builders.
We were very privileged to have a 'Welcome to Country'
from Uncle Charles Moran, Bundjalung elder, who also performed two
smoking ceremonies. Cr Jenny Dowell, Lismores mayor, unveiled the
commemorative plaque.
The solar system powering the hall was on display and there was
a sustainability forum in the afternoon hosted by Gordon Fraser-Quick
(Lismore Sustainability Forum, EcoRiders), Dr Keith Bolton (Ecoteam
on-site sewage), Klara Marosszeky (Industrial hemp), Robyn Francis
(Permaculture), Anna King (Nimbin Organics), Dr Effie Abblett (EcoMart),
Mark Byrne (Environmental Defenders Office), Jim Arachne (Biodynamic
farming and seed saving), and Giovanni Ebono (Author, Greens candidate).
It was free and open to the public.
